Grove City College Lacrosse today announced that they have officially selected former Ohio State University Captain and Defensive MVP Andrew Stimmel as their new head coach, formally replacing Mark Sandvig, who announced that he would step down from the position earlier this summer. Stimmel will take immediate authority over the Wolverines, a team which only two years ago traveled to Denver, Colorado for the national tournament.
“I’m very excited about this opportunity and the future for Grove City Lacrosse. It’s been amazing to see how God has worked through others to make this opportunity happen. I have to thank Grove City College, Jim Dymski, CCO, FCA and the entire Ohio State Lacrosse staff for the role they’ve played in making this opportunity a reality. It’s an honor to take part in a program that is continuing to grow and has an invested interest in producing tremendous young men. I’m looking forward to giving back to the greater Pittsburgh community that has had a great impact on my life and can’t wait to hit the ground running once we step on campus.” Andrew Stimmel, Head Coach, Grove City College Lacrosse.
Stimmel joins the wolverines in partnership with Grove City College, Coalition of Christian Outreach, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the Grove City College Lacrosse Community to serve both as the head lacrosse coach and as a campus minister, hoping to help foster leadership on the Grove City College Campus, on and off the field. Stimmel believes that every athlete needs to practice the same level of excellence in the classroom and the community as they do on the field, and he has pledged to hold the team accountable to this standard.
“There is something incredible about having a coach that you know is truly invested in trying to bring out the best in you. Coach Stimmel makes a huge effort to go out of his way to get to know each of his players personally. This is before he has met most of us in person! Knowing that a coach is personally invested in you drives you to put in the work and try your very best. We have a rare gift in Coach Stimmel.” - Evan Reyle ’14, Chaplain, Grove City College Lacrosse.
“Once Coach Sandvig announced he was leaving, we knew that this vacancy would change the structure and intensity of our program. Coach [Sandvig] said that the team developed as far as he could take us with his knowledge of lacrosse skill, strategy, and training. We knew that we would either be stepping forwards or stepping backwards with our new hire, as it was very difficult to find someone that encompassed all of the great attributes Coach Sandvig brought to the position. Bringing Coach Stimmel in allows the program to continue moving forward towards our goals. I’m sure he will pick up right where Coach Sandvig left off, and continue to push the team both athletically and spiritually. 2012 will be a great year to be a player for Grove City College Lacrosse.” - Bill Sigmund ’12, President and Captain, Grove City College Lacrosse.
“His desire to serve Grove City College and Western Pennsylvania, combined with his rich lacrosse and coaching experience make him an excellent selection for this position. I am confident that he will not only help our team grow, but that he will leave a lasting footprint on the greater Pittsburgh area.” - Brandon Jones ’13, Director of Communication, Grove City College Lacrosse.
“I am really excited about the addition of Coach Stimmel. I think that he will positively impact our campus in a huge way, not just on the lacrosse field but with us players overall as men. With that said his lacrosse pedigree is extremely impressive and I am so ready to see what is in store for our team on the field this year.” – Chris Dymski ’14, Director of Recruiting, Grove City College Lacrosse.
